Exodus 4:2 What is in Your Hand?
My view from "The Chair" this morning - Exodus 4:2. Usually, my eyes glide over simple things as I'm reading, but this morning my eyes and heart have become fixated on this verse and all the implications of it. God asks a simple question of Moses, "What's in your hand?" If I had to guess, I would think Moses was thinking to himself, "A stick, really. All this shepherd's staff really is, is a glorified stick of wood." I know that's what I would've been thinking. Yet, God gives him precise directions that involve the stick. God chooses to use the menial stick in Moses's hand to demonstrate His power. Know what though? Here's two important things I realized. First, Moses had to acknowledge what he had in his hand. Secondly, he had to choose to obey and do what God was asking Him to do.
I don't know about you, but I often minimize what I have in my hands. I don't think that the skill, talent, or possession is anything special that the Lord can use right now. I just don't think what I have is all that "important" because it seems just so ordinary to me. Know what? Here is what I've discovered today - God has created you with something in your hands that you see as "ordinary" but He can use to do extraordinary things with. He wants to use it to help you love Him and love your neighbor. Esther had a crown. Martha had a kitchen. Noah had a hammer. Rahab had guest rooms. The boy had loaves and fishes. David had a sling. Dorcas had a needle and thread. The woman had a jar filled with oil. Mary had a son. What is in your hands? Will you acknowledge it and surrender it to Him for His uses? He wants to love the world through what is in your hands.
