Psalm 141:2 Go Ahead and Use the Vehicle of Incense
My view from “The Chair” this morning - Psalm 141:2. When was the last time you walked into a room and the smell was simply deliciousful. Tahitian Vanilla. Fresh Lemon. Plumeria. I grew up in a home that ALWAYS smelled wonderful! My mother made sure that there was pleasant aromas placed throughout the home. Still to this day, when I encounter certain smells, I am instantly transported back to my childhood. Go ahead and pause for a moment and let your mind wander to an aroma that has pleasant memories for you.
Incense is a vehicle used to bring an aroma to wherever it’s placed. Incense is a tool, it is not a particular scent or odor. In this verse, David is asking God to allow His prayers to be a vehicle that transports His vulnerable heart to God’s ears. He knew that, as what was in his heart flowed out through his mouth, it would need to go somewhere. He was asking for it to go straight to God’s ears. We, as parents, instantly know the sound of our children’s voices and long to hear them. God is just like that with us. When we allow our heart to be expelled through our own voices, it is like sweet incense to His ears. He hears you! He deeply longs to hear your voice pouring our your heart to Him. Does he already know what is in your heart? Of course, just like we, as parents, pretty much know what is in the heart of our physical children. However, when our children come and use their own voices to tell us, there is a connection that causes us to be attuned to their needs. God longs to hear your voice. It is sweet to His ears. Today, will you join me in sending your audible words as incense to our Father?
