Over and over I am nudged by the Holy Spirit towards certain activities to be His hands and feet in this world. I feel the nudge and sometimes I hear the whisper but I am a girl that likes clarity. Anyone else like me? I want to know the “plan” before I start moving toward what He is asking. When I don’t know His “plan” or have one of my own, fear sets in. Sometimes it’s fear of looking stupid. Other times, it’s fear of failure or not being able to clearly articulate the hows and whys of what He is asking of me.
Currently, I have two thoughts around this. #1 I feed my fear when I try to control the circumstances or how things play out. #2 No where in the bible does God promise clarity. He does promise provision though. Hum…. so much to think about. In Luke 12:7 He tells us, “Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.”
I am learning to push the fear aside and “Just do it”. Every time I step forward and trust, He provides. Most recently, it was asking for donations to feed the children of a section eight apartment complex near the school I teach at, by supplementing groceries to families over the summer. I heard His whisper and started my normal calculations of trying to plan the “how” of it. Then I just stopped and made a social media post. Everyday I stand in awe at how the food is coming in. (Even a box of unicorn cereal.) I could not have planned it! He has forged new friendships; allowed new community partnerships; and brought random donors alongside to make this happen. I am seeing that truly His untangled view and ways are far better than mine.
Next time you hear His whisper or feel His nudge, “Just do it” you will be pleasantly surprised and your faith will grow deeper roots.
