See this lady? (The one on the right.) She has called out things in my life that are both gifts and things that needed to change. She has spoke life into me. She has allowed me to interrupt her life with my struggles. She has taught me to pray and believe. She has walked me into the inner sanctuary of His presence and stood nearby as He healed my heart. She wakes up and often prays for me, before I have the courage to ask for prayer. She has been a gift and blessing to me! She has also spoken to my pride issues. She is a warrior disguised as an everyday woman. I pray you have one of these kind of warriors in your life. She has taught me that this third piece is vital to not just “surviving” but being able to walk through pain, suffering, and disappointment. Thirdly, you need to kill your pride and “Wake Your Friends Up!”
Pride comes disguised in so many costumes! It often likes to present as “Self-sufficiency”. Another of it’s favorite costumes is “The Strong-Man” suit. Both of these forms of pride keep us from being successful at navigating these treacherous waters of pain, grief, disappointment, or loss.
In the garden of Gethsemane, Jesus left his disciples to go pray. When he returned, they had fallen asleep. What did He do? He woke them up and asked them to pray. If Jesus can wake up His friends and ask them to pray, then maybe we should consider doing the same thing.
When I am struggling with these issues the last thing that naturally crosses my mind is to “Wake my friends up” and ask them to pray for me. If I do have a conscious thought in that directions, my pride is quick to kick in and find 101 excuses as to why that would be a horrible idea. I am here to tell you that all the excuses our brains are telling us are ….LIES….LIES….LIES! If Jesus woke his friends up and asked the to pray, we should do likewise. Anyone with me on this?
I have several pieces of paper that all read the same. Want to know what they say? Here you go:
