Eight Words That Can Change EVERYTHING - Luke 23:46

Standing in the middle of the Red Light District in Nagpur, India, I was the obvious visitor. My blonde hair stood out against the bright colors and dark haired residents. The ladies were gathering for some teaching in the center. One stepped to the front and started praying in a language I did not know. Somehow though, it didn’t matter because my heart simply joined in. Prayer and worship intertwined in a symphonic dance that carried me away. I could not understand the words, but my heart knew the rhythm and the one to whom we were with. There was one phrase though that grabbed my undivided attention. I had heard it the previous mornings as I listened to some of the others where we were staying. After the gathering, I asked what the words meant and this is what I was told, “Father, we surrender our will to your Holy Spirit.” WOWZEE!!! Stop with me for a moment and ponder this. Powerful words. “Holy Spirit, I surrender my will to you.” Nine words that can change your heart, emotions, plans, and focus. I have started Incorporating this into my chats with God and it has had a dramatic effect. Additionally, whenever I feel my will wanting to take over control, I just stop and whisper these words aloud.

It is believed that Mary, Jesus mom, used Psalm 31:5 as a common bedtime prayer when Jesus was a child. Mary probably recited it to Jesus every night before he went to sleep. It is possible that she recited these words to him and over him hundreds of thousands of times as he grew into a man. Mary most likely didn’t realize the power that these words would hold in Jesus’ final moments on this earth. She was teaching Him how to die.

When we allow others to participate with us in prayer, our words can inspire and teach His truth and ways. Will you join me in letting others participate with you?

Until We Chat Again,

46  Then Jesus shouted, "Father, I entrust my spirit into your hands!" And with those words he breathed his last.
