Just Show Up! - Philippians 2:4

Moving like a Tinman that still needed to be seriously greased, I methodically packed one more box. Exhaustion makes a nasty companion. Anyone else ever feel that way? Two o’clock had somehow sneaked up on us and we were still working on packing the first room. Exhausted emotionally and mentally, I stood calculating just how long this was going to take us. Silently, a small electrical shock wove its way from my wrist, up my arm, and to my numbed brain. An offer of assistance was being made from an unexpected source. Hesitating at her offer, I allowed my brain to the the mental gymnastics around the reasons. Was my hesitation due to a certain odor that permeated everything? Was it due to the exhaustion of all parties involved and what could end up being messy if one of us had a meltdown? Was it pride? Shoving all these reasons aside, I watched my fingers text out “YES please.” Like a gift from heaven, moments later they arrived and the move was completed within two hours.

I am so glad my sweet friend was brave and asked if she could help. I’m so glad that she and her family “Just Showed Up.” She put her own interest, needs, and wants aside and reached out to offer much needed help. As Christ’s extremeties, we are given the opportunity over and over to “Just Show Up!” Sometimes, I hesitate longer than I should or make excuses for why it might be awkward and then I don’t seize the opportunity. Jesus asks us to “Love our neighbor.” I am learning that part of “Loving my neighbor” is to “Just Show Up.” My heart is so full and feels so loved right now because of her gift. Next time God nudges my heart and whispers, “Go help,” may I be quick to say “Yes” and just show up! How about you?
